Due to the covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Womex (Worldwide Music Expo) was held as a digital edition from 21 to 25 October ’20.
Womex, which is the “most international music meeting in the world” and the biggest conference of the global music scene, brings together professionals from the worlds of folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music, contributing to networking as an effective means of promoting music and culture of all kinds across frontiers.
In its first-ever Digital Edition, Womex’s program consisted of:
- Showcases and concerts, throughout which artists got creative and put together some incredible musical material;
- conferences and networking sessions, sorted in interactive online panel discussions, mentoring sessions and networking meetings and presentations, with which speakers from around the world addressed the global music scene’s most pressing topics;
- film screenings, with topics ranging from the representation of Africa, female empowerment, diversity, inclusivity, the Black Lives Matter movement, grassroots community actions, ecology and spirituality;
- awards celebrating extraordinary artists and professionals from the community.
