CUMEDIAE is delighted to announce a new collaboration with Europeana on the annual competition project GIF IT UP 2020!

Held every year in the month of October, the GIF IT UP contest invites history nuts, culture enthusiasts, and Internet fans to test and challenge their skills by creating a GIF – an image, video or text that has been digitally manipulated to become animated.

Amazing material is made available to gif makers from the digital libraries that are cooperating in this project, Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), New Zealand’s Digital NZ, National Library of Australia’s TroveJapan Search and DAG Museums. Furthermore, through the Europeana collection website, millions of cultural heritage items from around 4,000 Institutions across Europe are available online.

By means of GIF IT UP ’20 contest – which is also supported by GIPHY, the world’s largest library of animated GIFs  – participants will have a chance to win an online art history course from DailyArt magazine and Red Bubble Gif Cards. Moreover, GIF IT UP will expose, through its own GIPHY channel, participants’ creations to millions, giving voice and promoting cultural heritage in a funny and interactive way.

All of this is made possible by Europeana, Europe’s platform for digital cultural heritage empowering cultural heritage institutions to share their collections with the world. CUMEDIAE supports Europeana’s mission to share and promote this heritage so that it can be used and enjoyed by people across the world, contributing to an open, knowledgeable and creative society.

We are excited to be part of this great initiative and invite all of you to take part in the GIF IT UP contest!
